Tomorrowland 2021 is officially cancelled

The Belgian authorities were forced to cancel the world's largest electronic and dance music festival, Tomorrowland.

For the festival to take place, approximately 75,000 daily visitors will need to be tested for COVID-19 every day of the event.

The Belgian government has stipulated that private companies cannot conduct testing and the police do not have sufficient resources.

Police said they would not be able to provide security at the festival grounds, but would need to check their IDs and proof of vaccination.

“We have just been informed that the mayors of Boom and Rumst will announce a ban on Tomorrowland 2021,” event organizers said in a statement.

The organizers said they would appeal the decision of local authorities to the Belgian national government.

During a press conference on Thursday, government officials said that while they love the festival, they must respond to the current situation, fearing that at an event of Tomorrowland scale and international appeal, they will not be able to properly enforce health and safety protocols.
